Globe Skimmer: Why We Built the Travel Planner We Wanted to Use

Every trip starts the same way: a flight confirmation buried in your inbox, a hotel booking in a different app, a shared doc with everyone’s must-see list, and a group chat trying to hold the whole thing together. It works, sort of, right up until you land somewhere unfamiliar at 11pm and need three of those four things at once.

We built Globe Skimmer because we were tired of that. Not tired of traveling — tired of the fifteen minutes before every trip spent re-typing the same confirmation number into a spreadsheet nobody else opens.

Who We Are

Globe Skimmer is built by Stitch & Snare, a small web studio, and it started as a tool we needed for ourselves before it became something we thought other people needed too. There’s no venture-backed roadmap here, no growth team optimizing for engagement. It’s a $19.99 app, paid once, that does a specific job well.

The AI inside Globe Skimmer has a name — Itchy — because “the assistant” felt like the wrong way to describe something that’s meant to feel more like a travel-obsessed friend than a customer service chatbot. Itchy is grounded in your own saved trip details. Ask it to find a hotel, and it searches live data and writes the result into your itinerary — it doesn’t guess, and it doesn’t hand you a list and wander off.

Why We Built It

We looked at what already existed — Wanderlog, TripIt, the wave of new AI trip planners — and found the same hole in almost all of them: tools either generate a plan or organize a trip. Almost none do both, and almost none check their own work.

TripIt is excellent at parsing confirmation emails, but it writes nothing new — it’s a filing cabinet, not a planner. Wanderlog has no AI generation at all; you’re still doing the legwork of deciding what goes where. And the newer AI trip planners tend to generate a beautiful-looking itinerary and then hand it to you with no way to verify a single detail — no confirmation the restaurant is still open, no check that the hotel price is real.

That’s the trust problem, and it’s the one that mattered most to us. Itchy is grounded in your own saved trip data — the places you’ve actually added, the dates you’ve actually set — rather than free-floating guesses. When it writes something into your itinerary, it’s because you asked for that specific thing, not because it invented a plausible-sounding day.

The other gap was the before/during split. Most tools cleanly separate “planning” from “the actual trip,” forcing a handoff between two different apps right when you need continuity the most. Globe Skimmer covers plan, manage, and remember in one continuous place — the same app before you leave, while you’re there, and after you’re home.

Two more patterns kept showing up in our research. The first was complaints about existing tools going chaotic and clunky the moment a trip got complicated — more than a couple of destinations, more than a couple of travelers, and the app that felt fine for a weekend trip started buckling. The second was pricing: the features that actually matter — offline access, route optimization, full AI search — sit behind a $40–50/year paywall on the tools people already use.
